Venezuela

I had read multiple takes on the kidnapping as oil related, but immigration is clearly also a huge motivator. With control of Venezuelan government, US can force them to accept deportation flights. As Nathan Akehurst mentions in Jacobin

In the Venezuelan case, this seems to have led to a confluence of interests emerging around a Caribbean center of gravity. Immigration hawks spied an opportunity to escalate mass deportations to a post-intervention Venezuela, oil watchers saw profit and energy security, and ideologues saw an opportunity to remove a long-standing thorn in their side.

Obviously, further developments in Venezuela can’t be predicted, but this doesn’t seem good for Venezuelan TPS holders and asylum seekers.
